Facebook has just announced their new product, Facebook New Messages, which is a unified messaging system including SMS, Chat, Email, and Messages all in one interface. A concept based on everyday conversation between people, Facebook New Messages requires minimal effort and time to share stuff with your friends and family.
It does not require you to enter subject lines or CC or BCC for sending mails. You just type the message and send it to your friend on Facebook, and from then on this conversation could lead to an instant chat or wind up as an Email thread. All conversation history is grouped under one hood, whether it is chat or email or SMS.
The Social Inbox
Facebookâs Email platform is called the Social Inbox (did you expect anything else 
) Their message filters put your professional and non-Facebook stuff away in separate folders, that is until you decide to bring them to the main Inbox. Which means your friends will get more priority than your customers, who are still unknown to you on Facebook.
Controlling spam is the most challenging part of any Email service, and Facebook mail gives you all the message filters you need to keep unwanted mails out of your Inbox. You can even bounce emails from people other than your friends.
Users who already have a username (public vanity URL) on Facebook can get the username@facebook.com Email address registered. Currently Facebook.com is sending out invites to all those who ask them.
So go ahead and request an invitation for yourself.
Facebook New Messages iPhone App
An update to Facebook app for iPhone is soon expected to bring the New Messages.
