Viewsonic ViewPad 7e Android tablet now available for pre-order for $200

Viewsonic has been at the low-cost Android tablet for some time now, and it showed no signs of letting up on that effort at IFA last week, where it debuted its new ViewPad 7e. If that managed to pique your interest, you’ll be glad to know that the device is now available for pre-order for $199.99 (though there’s still no promised ship date). That will buy you a 7-inch screen, a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, Android 2.3 for an OS, 4GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, and even a mini HDMI port that will let you output full 1080p video. ASUS Eee Slate B121

Temper that excitement. This isn’t the rumored quad-core, Kal-El running Transformer 2. Still, ASUS is doing its best to port the tab buzz to the enterprise set with its quietly introduced Eee Slate B121. Unlike its tablet PC bretheren, this business-minded slate runs Windows 7 Professional atop an Intel Core i5 processor, and comes loaded with the security tweaks necessary for the corporate road warrior: like Computrace LoJack for remote location and data wipe, and a Trusted Platform Module microchip that stores encrypted data. Also tacked on to the $1,500 12.1-inch package are a Bluetooth [...]

AMD Shiped 16-core Bulldozer CPUs for Servers ,

AMD’s Interlagos, its server-styled Bulldozer chip — Mr. Opteron 6200 to you and me — is being pushed out to retailers and OEMs ready for an October launch. AMD is calling it the first 16-core x86 processor, although as we know from the required reading, it has eight two-core shared modules rather than 16 independent ones. The chips are compatible with Socket G34 motherboards, but most of this first production run will go straight into supercomputer projects. AMD remains mute on progress of the consumer-level Zambezi, but rumors are that the company can’t clock it fast [...]

Intel adds 16 CPUs to Sandy Bridge Stable Cuts Prices on older CPUs

It’s been a few months since AMD threw down the gauntlet on Intel with its lower-priced Llano lineup, and now Chipzilla’s responded with some new bargain basement Sandy Bridge silicon. The refresh includes 11 new desktop CPUs: a Core i5 chip, three Core i3s, and a handful of dual-core Pentium and Celeron processors as well. There are also five new mobile chips, including three new quad-core Core i7s (2960XM, 2860QM, and 2760QM), and the dual-core Core i7-2640M and Celeron B840. In a separate nod to these tough economic times, Intel cut the prices on a few of its existing models, too. [...]

Haier’s transparent organic TV

What’s the worst thing about your TV? If you said “opaqueness,” boy have we got the set from you. This is a 22-inch transparent organic TV from the folks at Haier (you know, the ones who also showed off that mind control TV today). It’s a slim display with a metal bezel that has a clear OLED at its center with a 1680 x 1050 resolution. The images appeared pretty sharp on screen, though the colors didn’t particularly pop. And really, this thing isn’t likely headed to any living rooms in the near future — Haier sees it more as an advertising tool, letting [...]

ASUS G74SX-A1 Gaming Laptop

The 1982 Lockheed Sea Shadow may be rusting away in Suisun Bay, but its Commie-spooking contours haven’t been forgotten. They apparently inspired the design of the Asus G74SX-A1, which just won a HotHardware recommendation for its cheese-eschewing looks as well as its performance, efficient cooling and realistic $1749 price tag. For once, the Core i7-2360QM CPU coupled with a GeForce GTX 560M and generous 12GB dollop of DDR-1333 RAM actually conspired to surpass the manufacturer’s 3DMark benchmark claims. It wasn’t flawless though: overall computing performance was middling compared [...]

Amazon Kindle tablet details revealed

The Amazon Kindle tablet will boast a 7-inch form-factor, a multi-touch screen, run on Android and cost about half the price of the Apple iPad, according to a writer who claims to have seen the device. MG Siegler of the influential TechCrunch blog says he has seen and played with a Design Verification Testing unit of the heavily-rumoured device, which is expected to arrive in November. Amazon has yet to officially confirm it will launch a tablet. Siegler, who claims he could not post any pictures as part of a seemingly covert hands-on, says the device can be likened to that of the BlackBerry Playbook [...]
