Microsoft is serious about Windows 8, and if you’re serious about submitting Metro-style apps then there’s now a healthily long and detailed blog post (at the source link) explaining how. The post suggests that Redmond’s app police are looking at a roughly a six-day turnaround for signing off and publishing the average title, with content compliance taking the longest time because it involves “real people.” As the real person in the video after the break makes clear, your first goal should be to reserve your app’s name so no one else can take it. (You do have [...]

About three years ago Ars Technica has pointed out the Facebook flaw where the photos deleted by its users still exist in the cloud, and accessible via direct links after months or even years. Overview Sony’s latest attempt to lift a slice of the handheld pie so ably scoffed by Nintendo is the PS Vita: a chunky black slab of portable PlayStation. It’s a substantial revamp of the company’s handheld legacy that started with the PSP and has evolved, until now, through five largely identical models since its 2004 debut. Each step saw minor revisions – three of which, the PSP-1000, 2000 and 3000, were basically size revising updates – and attempts to chase a rapidly changing market. The PSP Go added a sliding-case design further shrinking the device, and ditched [...]

While Toshiba’s stateside reps had us convinced its 14-inch Ultrabook wouldn’t see the light of day until sometime in June, that message of withholding apparently didn’t make it Down Under. Outed by its Australian arm today, that would-be Portege is actually the company’s Satellite U840. We already knew the electronics giant had intended on shuffling this Windows 7 machine out under that brand umbrella back at CES, but now we have a $1,500 AUD (about $1,608 USD) price tag to go with a list of confirmed specs. Officially on deck for this aluminum-bodied laptop are an Intel [...]
